Become a Distinguished Felon ™

The Institute for People with Criminal Records, through its initiative and association People with Criminal Records United ™, is committed as part of our mission to support select felons in social justice career training and development. One manner in which we are advancing this aspect of our mission is through creation of the Distinguished Felon program.

A Distinguished Felon is precisely what the term suggests: a felon who has distinguished himself or herself in a notable and somehow remarkable social justice context. We want to meet and support Distinguished Felons any way we can. How we will support you will vary depending on the person, their experience, journey, accomplishments, interests and resources. We may help find you employment. We may want to collaborate with or employ you. We might help you with a grant application. We may teach you how to be a grant writer or a lobbyist. It just depends.

Our current and first Distinguished Felon is Jack Johnson. Jack has the responsibility of Parole Coordinator and Mentor for People with Criminal Records United. Jack’s charge is to mentor association members of People with Criminal Records United who seek mentoring in rehabilitating themselves while incarcerated, and/or those who wish to pursue parole.

Jack is a parole expert. He was released from prison in May, 2010, after serving 40 years and 18 days of a life term plus 15 years. Here is Jack’s personal narrative.
